The last time there was a NCAA basketball game played on a US warship (literally on the water) to honor the veterans was back in 2012. Gonzaga and Michigan State are ready to bring back this concept in 2022 off the coast of San Diego. The game and its schedule have been confirmed by ESPN and NCAA.

The faceoff between the two universities will take place on November 11, 2022, honoring the Veterans’ Day with a live broadcast by ESPN both on the East and West Coast of the United States simultaneously. The game is scheduled to start right at San Diego’s sunset time, and if you are a local, you already know how breathtaking it will be.

In addition to the game between Michigan and Gonzaga, the Spartans and Bulldogs will also be playing and the U.S. Navy Command, together with the game’s organizers, will hold several activities together with the men and women in uniform who protect our nation.

We all know how the army and navy are embraced with all kinds of sports and that’s probably  why Vice Admiral Kenneth Whitesell, a commander in the U.S. Naval Air Forces, seems to be thrilled with the event and quoted:

“Those who serve, and who have served, know that the military is the ultimate team sport. I can think of no better way to salute our men and women in uniform than to celebrate this all-American pastime together on one of our nation's capital warships”

The 2022-23 college basketball tips-off on Monday, Nov. 7. What a way to begin a new year for the NCAA!
