The Lakers of the 80's, Pat Riley's team, starring the assists of Magic Johnson and the hook shots of Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, will be remembered in the latest series premiered on HBO Max, "Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty".
Written by directors Max Borenstein and Jim Hecht inspired by the book 'Showtime: Magic, Kareem, Riley, and the Los Angeles Lakers Dynasty of the 1980s' by Jeff Peralman, the series portrays the rise of the Los Angeles Lakers, a team quite different from the current one that just got knocked out of the 2021-22 NBA season playoffs.
Due to some difficulties for the directors to obtain original footage of the games from those days from the NBA, the dramaturgy together with a talented cast was the formula for this whole narrative to become as relevant as the original.
