It may be that you know him from word of mouth, or you may have seen him playing, or just witnessed one of this court moves that bear the name of Shammgod made by some other baller. The fact is that his move, when well executed, tends to embarrass opponents quite a bit.

Born and raised in Brooklyn, Shammgod Wells, popularly known as God Shammgod or “The Shammgod”, inspired and delighted people around the world with his unmatched court skill. It all started when he was an athlete at Providence University, in Rhode Island. He came up with a move that revolutionized the culture of basketball with a theoretically simple sequence: throwing the ball in the direction of the opponent as if he were going to pass it, but soon after he’d  reach it with the other hand and finish it off with a crossover.

In 1997, Shammgod was the 45th pick during the second round of the NBA draft for the Washington Wizards, having played only 20 games by 1998. He then played in the Chinese basketball for a few years and in 2009 ended his career as a player at the Oregon Waves. In 2019, not only has he a signature basketball shoe in collaboration with Basketball but he becomes a brand ambassador with Jay-Z, Jalen Rose, Clint Frazier and Chris Brickley.

A swarm of ballers, both professionals and amateurs, have organically spread his move across the league, which in addition to affirming its notoriety, it is also a statement that basketball has indeed been influenced at all levels. Today he is responsible for the development of Dallas Mavericks players and also consults with and provides advice to several professional players.
